Wetherby travel over to Wakefield tomorrow to take on Altofts in this West Yorkshire Division One Match. The game has a 2pm kick-off time and looking ahead at the weather, it should be cloudy and very cold!
With the weather set to be hit or miss over the next 24 hours, please keep checking both ours and Altofts social media feeds for match updates.
Following a very late cancellation of our match against Wyke Wanderers in the cup last weekend, the team will be ready to get back on a pitch and produce the type of football that saw them go four matches unbeaten earlier on this season. The last few games for Martin Powell’s side have been very hit or miss and he will be wanting to see his side produce an impressive performance and come back with three points.
Looking at the form guide coming into this match, it is us who hold the better record over the past five league games. However, we will certainly be taking nothing for granted!
Altofts currently sit in 11th place with 11 points from a total of 39. At home, they have won only two of the seven games that they have played. The remaining results sees one draw and four defeats. They have found the target 12 times (avg. 1.7 goals per game) whilst conceding 17 (avg. 2.4 goals per game). Their last result at Altofts Community Sports Club saw them play out a seven-goal thriller as they lost 4-3 to Howden Clough.
Looking through the database, it appears that we have only faced each other a handful of times. There are at least three recorded meetings with the last one appearing to be on the 7th Jan 2012. This was a good game for us as we ran out 5-2 winners at The Ings in the West Yorkshire Premier League. Our goals coming from J. Anderson with four and M.Waterhouse with the other. The other two meetings have ended in defeats, so we will be looking to even the record up!
A win for Athletic would, potentially, see us close the gap on Boroughbridge to just a point and still have a game in hand over them. A defeat could see drop a place if East End Park beat former leaders Wyke Wanderers.
Manager Martin Powell will be hoping that the enforced rest last week has done his team some good and he should have a pretty full squad to choose from, although there is some doubt over the ability of several players.
The referee for this game will be Mr Brian Knaggs. This is Mr Knaggs’s second game in charge of us as he was he man in black during our recent 5-4 win over Aberford Albion.
