This coming Saturday afternoon at The Ings will see a little bit of the club’s history made as Manager Mark Forster will officially lead his side out on home soil for the last time (although the Headingley match is being played at The Ings, it is technically classed as an away game) The match has a 2:30pm kick-off and should be accompanied by light cloud.
Following Monday’s cup triumph over Kippax FC, we now have three final league games to try and get as many points on board for pride’s sake to make sure we don’t end up bottom of the table.
Looking at the league form guide over the past five games, it seems that Horbury hold a very slender advantage going into this match.
Our opponents can finish no higher than 4th in the league as this will be their final game. At the moment, they sit in 6th place with a haul of 41 points from a total of 87. Their away record has probably been the major factor why they haven’t finished higher up the table having won just three of the fourteen matches that they have played, although they have added another two points through draws) They have managed to hit the back of the net 24 times on their travels (avg. 1.7 goals per game) whilst conceding 33 (avg. 2.4 goals per game).
We will be hoping to extract a bit of revenge over Horbury as our earlier meeting at the Slazengers Sports Complex did not go to plan at all and we ended up being well beaten 5-1 with Arran Horton scoring our goal (see match report here).
Looking at the Wetherby Athletic AFC Database, it throws out the statistic that the two sides have faced each other no less than 11 times with us being the dominant team in wins with 6 to Horbury’s 3. Goals wise, it’s pretty close with us hitting 20 and Horbury with 16!
Having a look at the West Riding FA website shows no suspensions for both times and as is the norm at the moment, Mark will run his eye over his players before naming his squad.
At the time of this article, the West Yorkshire FA page was only displaying Mr Gareth Myers and Mr Gerald Surman as officials for this match. We hope that all the visiting officials have a pleasant time whilst they are at The Ings.
Please come down and support the team but also to give Mark a great send-off in what will be an emotional match for him. The Wetherby Sports Association Club will be open before, at half time and after the match serving a wide range of beverages for you to enjoy.
Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, there will be no online matchday programme for this game. We apologise for this and hope to have this rectified as soon as possible.
