REPORT: Field AFC 1 v 1 Wetherby Athletic
Improving Wetherby Seal Point Against Tough Field Side.
Wetherby picked up where they left off last week with another excellent display and a very hard earned point against a quality Field side.
Played in bright sunshine the opening 20 minutes were pretty even with both teams having good chances, but finding that both keepers were equal to the task in hand.
Josh Wilson went close with a superb chip, while the Field number 7 had a shot from outside the area well saved by Mike Recchia.
As the half drew to a close, Field again tested the Wetherby goal and their captain went close with a header from a corner.
Manager Mark Forster stressed at half time that the first ten minutes in the second period were vital and we must not concede!
As expected, Field piled on the pressure looking for the breakthrough. Some excellent defending from Josh Buckley, Dave McKay and Andy Graham kept the hosts at bay. On the break Wetherby were always dangerous, with the pace of Josh Wilson and Teydiairvine Machama causing problems. It required a great last ditch tackle from the Field captain to halt Machama as he look to pull the trigger.
Finally a goal arrived and just as Field were getting on top Wetherby struck! A clearance from debutant Shane Hand was headed down by Joe Whiteley and as the ball bobbled around, Joe Garside pounced and his sweetly hit shot from 20 yards gave the Field keeper no chance.
Phil Milson and Arran Horton were having a real battle on the right side and a clever move almost saw Wetherby go two up, but this time the shot was cleared off the line!
As expected Field were fired up having gone behind. A smart move down the left saw the ball neatly dragged back and a sweet finish by the Field forward saw the game all level on the hour mark.
Forster made some changes with John Tehrani replacing the excellent Garside and Rob Etherington coming on for Machama, who had run himself to a standstill with a superb display.
As the game wore on, tired legs meant there was chances at either end. Field almost scored when the ball struck the outside of the post and another shot went agonisingly close from a goalmouth scramble. At the other end, Buckley went close with a header and Horton produced a free kick that almost crept in. And right at the death, a cross from Josh Wilson almost found the stretching Etherington.
An excellent game of football played by two very committed teams. Field were desperate to gain all three points, but Wetherby pushed them every inch of the way and were certainly worth a point.

Wetherby Man Of The Match (chosen by Mark Forster and Andy Young): Difficult one two judge, but in the end both Mark and myself were in agreement. All thirteen players put a massive shift in and were a credit to the Club. Shane Hand had a very promising debut. Phil Milsom shone at wing back and Joe Garside scored a goal to remember and produced an excellent passing display. Upfront Josh and Ivan worked tirelessly. However MOM went to Dave McKay. Towering performance at the heart of the defence.
